Through our Operation Rise and Conquer program, the Adaptive Sports Center provides high-quality adventure activities for veterans, military service personnel and first responders who have a disability. Operation Rise and Conquer was created in 2013 to empower and inspire wounded soldiers and veterans to regain confidence and trust in themselves and others. In 2019, the scholarship program was extended to include first responders and their family members. Operation Rise & Conquer allows the Adaptive Sports Center to offer veterans, active military and first responders with disabilities and their families $50.00 full day lessons for summer and winter activities. The special rate is also available to veterans, active military and first responders who have a family member or child with a disability. Adaptive Sports Center instructors are experienced working with veterans, military, and first responders with disabilities. Since its inception in 1987, the Adaptive Sports Center has hosted veterans with disabilities. During the early 1990s the Adaptive Sports Center was selected to host the National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic, a program sponsored by The Department of Veterans Affairs to introduce military servicemen and women with disabilities to skiing and snowboarding. Hundreds of military veterans with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, orthopedic amputations, visual impairments, certain neurological conditions and other disabilities came together in Crested Butte for the event. The Adaptive Sports Center serves more than 150 veterans, military service members, first responders, and their families, while also providing high-quality adventure programming for groups of veterans and first responders from Brooke Army Medical Center, Paralyzed Veterans of America, DC Firefighter Burn Foundation, Servicemembers Undertaking Disabled Sports, Fort Carson, and Operation BASH.
