A Good Life - Carlos Carlos was just 23 when his life changed dramatically due to a motorcycle accident on his way home from work. Waking up in the hospital with no memory of the event and no feeling in his legs, he was devastated to learn he may never walk again. Leaving the hospital, he began rehabilitation at Rancho Los Amigos, where they pushed him to his limits and taught him resilience. Shortly after arriving at Rancho, he traveled with them to Crested Butte to experience the thrill of skiing with the Adaptive Sports Center. That is when he realized life still held exciting possibilities. “Sometimes we think too much, we have to live,” he reflected. Carlos later traveled back to Crested Butte during the summer and discovered downhill mountain biking which became a game-changer, providing him with a sense of joy and freedom. “Adaptive has opened up a lot of possibilities. It’s my happy place,” he said. The lessons from Rancho continue to support him daily, and the Adaptive Sports Center gives him hope for himself and others with disabilities. Looking back, Carlos would tell his younger self: “You’re gonna have a great life. Don’t say no to anything, just do it. It’s an adventure, and you’ll have so much fun.”
